What we’re noticing:
- The “urgent” issue is the Rust Disease! It was so prominent last week with the heat! Orange dust everywhere. I’ve never seen it so bad that the mower throws dust clouds of rust!

- “Rust is a disease of slow growing turf” which is a sign of the more important issue: the drought
- Rust is generally non-damaging; just annoying.
- The important issue is we’ve had very little rain: Basically none since the first half of August.
- We got 2.29″ of rain in August this year while last year’s horrible drought was helped with 4.27″ in August
- Last year ended up being the second driest September ever recorded with 0.24″ of rain. So far we’ve received 0.06″ of rain this September with not too much promising in the forecast.
- Grass and all plants are hurting.
What we’re doing:
- While chipping away at our Fall Applications we’re also doing our last round of ProSquito treatment which helps with the Fall spreading of mosquito carried diseases as well as Fall tick carried diseases
What you can be doing:
- Water, Water, Water – what a broken record we are.
- Seriously; check out these two lawns below – I took this picture at the end of September last year (this blog post)
- Last year we had significantly more rain that we have right now.
- This is the importance of watering – both lawns had lawn care service but the one with ProLawns on the right watered properly in the ever-important Fall nutrient-reserve-building period.
