What we’re noticing:

  • We got roughly the same amount of rain in 36 hours last week as we got in the previous two and a half months combined! And it wasn’t even forecast!
    • The above chart is from MSP airport. The rains were extremely spotty however. Monday afternoon:
    • And Tuesday night:
  • We’re also noticing the disease issues we pointed out in last week’s post but to a much larger extent due to the moisture adding to the “fungus festering”
  • The good news is the disease is very temporary and non-damaging but the value added to lawns from the moisture is huge! A lot of lawns are coming out of dormancy and I didn’t have to pull the sprinkler out for a few days 🙂

What we’re doing:

  1. This week will be another round of Landscape Bed Grass and Weed control
  2. We’re plugging away at our third visit for regular lawn care applications
  3. We’re dotting our t’s and crossing our i’s for the Late Summer “Fall” Renovation Season which will start next week. We’re near capacity at the moment and expect it to fill up very quickly with this fourth year of drought struggles we’re experiencing. We’re ensuring we’re well prepared with supplies, labor and equipment so we have no delays over this Renovation Month!

What you can be doing:

  1. I’d continue mowing at the absolute highest setting. Yes we got rain but the deficit is still very large and two rain showers don’t make up for record setting dry we had up until that point.
  2. Water those yellow/dormant spots! Use the momentum from the big rain to bring it fully out of dormancy! If you don’t; it will stay somewhat dormant (it won’t die in the next couple weeks thanks to the rain – but it’s not healthy and will be near-death after a couple weeks without additional rain)
