We didn’t update this last week; We’ve been very busy getting in our aeration and overseeding jobs to help lawns recover from this very difficult summer. It seems most of the lawn drama for the summer is over anyway

The “good areas” of lawns are the areas that aren’t coming back. These are the areas with “good” soil (more black dirt) and that are normally wet throughout a normal year (lower areas). The grass in these areas have “spoiled” roots that are shallow; they’ve never had to plunge deep for water. Until this hottest year on record that also happens to be a drought. This grass did not have the resilience for this summer. Grass in sandy soil and normally dry areas was used to conditions like we experienced, it went dormant and sprang back to life.

We’ve generally had much more regular rains and milder temperatures.

Cleaning up the broadleaf weeds that take thrive in hot dry conditions and take advantage of heat stressed turf areas. Our late summer applications will wrap up this week

Our fall Winterizer applications will start next week and we plan to get though that entire round by the first or second week October.

Prepare your mower and leaf cleanup equipment for an early leaf drop – trees are just as stressed as grass and will be dropping their leaves early this year.

Water appropriately (amount and timing are both important!) – keep watering if we don’t get rain. Water up until frost in the fall. Watering is, of course, especially important if you’ve had us do some seeding or you’ve seeded
