What we’re noticing:
- The story is rain 🌧️🌧️🌧️
- From the rain we got yesterday; the airport is ad DOUBLE the rainfall we had at this point in 2022 and 2023.
- The rain won’t help our disease situations much but at least the forecast is much cooler than it has been. Disease needs warmth to thrive.
- While the rain at the airport is impressive; we actually received much more locally so far in August.

What we’re doing:
- We’re very busy with our “2nd Superbowl” – it’s the start of renovation season (the best time in MN for seeding) as well as another round of Mosquito control, landscape bed grass and weed control, and we’re about to start our Fall Applications. 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
What you can be doing:
- I drive by client’s houses everyday with their sprinkler systems running. STOP! They’re also running at 8:30 am (too late). No need for water. We’re within a fraction of an inch of the wettest year every recorded for the twin cities. Irrigation will only add to turf disease that’s already thriving.
- Mow regularly to keep up with the rain-induced growth.
- You can mow at 3-4″. I’ve been at 3.5 all summer but just went to 4″ to increase time between mowings (with all the growth we’ve had)
- Consider seeding this year. Don’t wait until the lawn is struggling in a drought again next year. Seed now while nutrients and water are ample and getting great new grass isn’t a struggle.
