What we’re noticing:
- We got a little bit of rain over the 4th but we’re still very far from what we need.
- “The driest growing season since 1910 had double the rainfall at this point in the season than we’ve had this year”
- I’m predicting some more broken records…
- July 1st 2023 update: “55447, Minneapolis, Minnesota is currently in Moderate Drought (D1), according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, and conditions are expected to persist over the next month.” More info from the National Integrated Drought Information System.
- With the hot dry weather; we’re seeing the late summer weeds we normally see in August. Chickweed and spurge like to pop up on edges of lawns – they like the hot weather.
What we’re doing:
- We are full effort on finishing up our second round of fertilizing and weed control and should be done this Thursday and on to the next round.
- We’re strategizing and gearing up for the fall seeding and renovation season.
- This is the way to make lawns more heat and drought tolerant; better and “spongier” soil that better holds moisture and nutrients and better grasses that more efficiently uses the water and nutrients available.
What you can be doing:
- Broken record here: Mow and water appropriately!
- Let us know if you’re seeing the hot weather weeds on your edges and you don’t think you should! We’ll come take care of them. Although we do our best to control and prevent them, these things can pop up in a week when turf is stressed. We may only get to your property once every six weeks or so and you’re there every day – we rely on you to keep us informed.
