What We’re Noticing:
We did it! 😠The HOTTEST and DRIEST September ever recorded. With just 25% of the rain of the next driest year 😳
-
- Fun fact: 2023 had only 0.06″ of rain as well up until Sept 25th when we got 5″ of rain (which didn’t really count for the lawns). That’s a lot of hot and years in recent memory.
- What makes this so much worse is how much rain we’ve received so far this year. We were way over average.
- The fact that the grass never had to struggle all summer and never plunged its roots deeper to find water makes this drought very dramatic.
- This was very much not expected.
- This is showing up worst currently under trees where those trees, getting ready for winter, are sucking tremendous amounts of moisture out of the soil.
- What we’re also seeing to a crazy extent is the Rust disease.

What We’re Doing:
- We’re doing our Fall Applications to:
- Apply that fertilizer to help lawns grow out of the Rust disease (once we get some rain!)
- Apply that fertilizer to help the lawns build strong winter roots to come into next Spring well.
- Get rid of all the weeds so the lawns go into next season with a blank slate.
What You Can Be Doing:
- The only thing here and now is WATER!
- You can’t really over-water as long as the water isn’t running off. Watch sidewalks and driveways to try to keep water from running down the street.
- You won’t really be able to water at the wrong time either now that temperatures will be going down. WATER WHEN YOU CAN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN to avoid runoff.
